Dust Mites – a Hidden Problem behind Asthma

All of us enjoy being clean individuals but there are times whenever cleanliness is somewhat beyond our control. As a result of this, there may be microscopic problems that are happening all around us which can be anywhere from a slight irritant to even deadly as is the case with an individual who has asthma. What I’m talking about is dust mites, a problem that occurs in more houses than most people can possibly understand. Here is a little bit about these mites and how they may be behind the asthma that you are experiencing.
Dust mites are not microscopic but they are so small that it is almost impossible to detect them easily. They are creatures that are closely related to the common tick and they eat the dust that is commonly flaking off of our body in the form of dead skin. Because of this, they really do serve a useful purpose and they were created in order to keep this under control. The unfortunate part about it is that they also leave their droppings behind them everywhere that they go and it is within these droppings that we have a problem. As a matter of fact, it can cause severe asthma in individuals who are allergic to it.
The droppings of the dust mites contain certain enzymes that the mite uses in order to digest the skin that they are eating. These enzymes can cause difficulties in individuals, especially as we breathe in the droppings without even knowing it. That is why one of the most dangerous places for dust mites to get a stronghold is in the beds where we sleep but unfortunately, that is where they are most commonly found. The results can be devastating for an individual with allergies and asthma.
One of the best ways for you to control the dust mite population in your home is to make sure that you’re keeping it as clean as possible. The dust that is in the home needs to be cut back but it also needs to be done within reason. Remember, cleaning can help you to have better breathing as a result of fewer dust mites but over doing it can also expose you to more of the dust mite droppings. Try to be balanced and do what you can to maintain a house that is as free of dust as possible. Your asthma should be better as a result.
