A Nighttime Ritual for Asthma Sufferers
For those of us that have experienced a severe asthma attack, the panic and an inability to breathe can be something that we fear constantly, even whenever an attack is not ensuing. We may try to do everything within our power to avoid having one of these attacks and for good reason. Not only are they inconvenient and uncomfortable, they kill many people on an annual basis and if you are unable to get the attention that you need, they can cause plenty of problems for you as well. Although there are a number of different things that you can do to overcome the problem, here is something that you may be missing.
Medical science is unable to tell you exactly why you have asthma but they can tell you that there are certain things that will trigger it in many cases. A good example of this is if you have allergies and many of us do have allergic reactions, even if we are not aware of it. Allergies can show up in many different forms and it is not just a runny nose that we experience. Some people cough, other people have skin reactions and for a vast majority, breathing problems can occur.
One thing that you may not realize is the fact that your hair acts as a magnet to pollen that you carry around with you all day long. Typically, this will not bother you as your hair is not directly in contact with your face unless you happen to have an odd hairstyle. The real problem occurs during the night, whenever you are transferring the pollen that has been stored in your hair during the day to your pillow. You breathe this pollen in and, as we tend to breed more deeply at night, you are breathing it in more deeply as a result.
That is why it is important for you to make sure that you wash your hair along with the rest of your body shortly before going to sleep. Make sure that you do not use water that is too hot or too cold as you do not want to alter the core temperature of your body to the extent where it will disrupt your sleep as well. By keeping the pollen off of your body whenever you go to bed, you keep it out of your lungs where it can do the most damage.
